Jacqueline Domac
Health Teacher at Venice High School, Los Angeles Unified School District

Jacqueline is Chair of the Health Department, a member of VHS School Based Management, Policy Consultant for the California Center for Public Health Advocacy, and Coordinator of the Linking Education, Activity and Food Grant. As a health teacher, Jacqueline focuses her instruction on inspiring students to make responsible decisions regarding nutrition, physical activity, sexuality, drugs and other lifestyle choices.

In addition to teaching, Jacqueline encourages students to become active in promoting various issues such as animal welfare, environmental protection, and social justice and sponsors the VHS Peace Club and VHS Students for Public Health Advocacy. Jacqueline and her students have made local and national headlines for their strong advocacy work, and were recently the subject of a PBS documentary entitled "Tipping the Scale" on KCET, and featured in "Eye on America" on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and TIME Magazine. Jacqueline and her students have been credited with providing the grassroots activism that lead to the unanimous 7-0 LAUSD School Board Vote to end the sale of soda during school hours on all LAUSD school sites.

Jacqueline received the 2004 Teacher of the Year Award for the Los Angeles Unified School District (Dist. D) presented to her by The County of Los Angeles. Jacqueline is also the recipient of the 2002 Healthy School Hero Award, presented to her by the National Education Association at the Healthy School Summit in Washington D.C. The Los Angeles Fulfillment Fund, California Project LEAN, The California State PTA and The Los Angeles County Office of Education have also honored Domac for her teaching excellence and activism. At the state level, Jacqueline serves as the Co-Chair of CA Senator Tom Torlakson's Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness.
